I've been thinking a lot about economic recovery/bailout money; healthcare reform; Democrats and Republicans and Libertarians; people in Nebraska, who apparently have had a backroom deal to pay for their healthcare in the healthcare reform bill approved by Congress; and CLASS, the proposed federal public long-term care insurance program; and babies; and old people; and bathwater. The third-place winner received a rose made of silver; the second-place winner a rose made of gold. But the first place winner received a real rose, a beautiful, living rose that soon wilted, dried up and died. In this society, as a result of shrinking tax receipts, it's not a huge surprise that elder services are being cut just when the elder population is booming.
