MADISON Governor Jim Doyle today urged Wisconsin employers to continue to apply for financial assistance for early retiree health plan benefits available through national health care reform. This program is just one aspect of national health care reform that will help Wisconsin residents and businesses access affordable health care coverage. Governor Doyle directed the Office to develop a plan that uses national health care reform to build on Wisconsin's successful efforts and existing programs; directed that the Office ensure that Wisconsin's residents and businesses realize the benefits of national health care reform; and directed Office to pursue federal grants to assist in developing a health insurance exchange and implementing any other aspects of health care reform. Wisconsin is now America's health care leader, ranking first for health care quality, second in access to coverage, and providing health care access to every child. National health reform builds on Wisconsin's health care successes and will bring $750-980 million in additional federal funding to the state, providing real relief to Wisconsin taxpayers. read more

The New Brunswick health system is on track to eat up 50 per cent of the provincial budget by 2015. What many people do not realize is we are doing so much in the "illness-care system" that doesn't need to be done and doesn't make any difference in people's health. The fact the health department's budget expanded by $1 billion in a decade reinforces how we have no choice but to address the financial crisis in the system. But inside the system â" and most of the older part of our population will confirm this â" there is significant ineffective use of health services. When the system is implemented the idea is that doctors offices will be linked and important health information can be shared in a way that will save money and help in better decision making.
