WHERE TO FIND GRANTS This is the most frequently asked question when it comes to grants. Unfortunately, many groups that offer grants do not advertise them very well. But there are places you can go when looking for grants. Local searches – Visit your high school guidance counsellor’s office, ask teachers, and check out local organizations to see if they are offering grants. Many times churches, civic groups, political organizations, small businesses, and youth groups will offer grants to students. Online searches – For state and national grant competitions, you should use the Internet to conduct searches. When conducting a grant search, you should visit your local library and ask for assistance. Many times librarians will know of databases to search that will help you find more grants in less time. You can also search for grants by searching for industry grants and other grants that are willing to fund the type of program you want to study. Online searches can be complex and take a lot of time. You will find databases during your search by looking up your home state, county, and town. You can also find grants by looking up specific corporations and seeing what they have to offer. Book searches – There are grant search books in the library that will also help you in your grant search. Grants offered through colleges – Many times, alumni of the college you want to attend will establish grant programs that will help you pay for college. You should ask about these programs and for more information. Magazines and newspapers – Local newspapers and magazines may sponsor a grant or two to help students pay for college. You can find this out by calling and asking for more information. As you can see, there are many places for you to conduct your grant search. Finding the right grants will not be easy which is why you need to begin early. But by checking into all of your options, you should be able to find some grants that you can qualify for. Each year, there are more grants that are made available. This means that you will have more chances to find and qualify for a grant.
