FINANCIAL AID OFFERED BY COLLEGES The first place you should look when trying to find a way to pay for college are the colleges themselves. These days in an effort to boost enrolment, many colleges offer financial incentives to entice promising students to attend. If you have a good academic record, if you excel in sports, or you have a talent that few others possess, you may find that college financial packages are waiting for you. When filling out college applications, you should inquire about student financial aid. Once the application process is complete and you have been accepted into a college or colleges, you will be given a financial aid package that will outline how much of your education will be paid for. If you have been accepted to a few colleges, the amount of financial aid you receive may be different. You should consider each college and decide on one based on the following criteria: Programs offered Location Tuition costs Room and board costs Financial aid package This can be a very difficult decision to make because you may want to go to one college, but another college is offering to pay a higher percentage of your costs. Before making a final decision, you should find out about other kinds of aid such as loans and scholarships. Unfortunately, these additional loans may affect the financial aid package offered by the college. You should talk with the financial aid office to discuss your options. Many times, colleges will offer room and board scholarships in addition to financial aid packages. This can vary from school to school, and from year to year. Make sure that your financial aid package can be used for the entire time you are in college.
